I decided to start with making one of my first jewelry accessories, wire wrapped rings, to begin Mia Mhoor Jewelry Collection in 2007. I was encouraged to teach jewelry making class too soon after I made my first ring. I thought someone else would do a better job at it than I would (I felt intimidated).

Years later, however, being given an opportunity to instruct a jewelry class in 2021 was amazing. Initially I was nervous since it seemed that there were so many ways to make a ring. Why would anyone value my method? Also, I didn’t know if it was going to give other designers, my competition, an open door to replicate my designs and sell with pricing that could draw more attention to their collections.

The results are in! I loved the feedback and always seeking ways to improve.

The jewelry making class at Sparkmakerspace was a good time! I was thrilled to see the enhanced skills and confidence of the students. I have to admit, being my very first formal and official class, I was expecting to be a lot more nervous. Was it because I had familiarity with the students that I felt at ease? These students are extraordinary since they individually shared with me prior to class their amazing projects, engineering experience, assembly of electronic devices and more! I was grateful for the learning experience from prior skill share type of meetings with these Spark members. Thanks guys. This time I was the host and showing these guys something new! Good times.

It took me years to realize that it was ok if other designers made similar ring designs as Mia Mhoor Jewelry. I had a my own unique way of making my Mhoor Art branding on each piece to help me stand out. Considering teaching to give others the joy of handmade accessories was a long road. I had no idea if the students would be advanced and would finish a ring in no time or if it would take two hours like it took me when I first started making one. After some advice from the executive director of Spark since January 2021, finally on October 10, I was able focus on one piece of jewelry to teach students to make it a more simple. I asked the students to complete a short survey, which they agreed.

Both students quickly learned the process to start the round band that the stone or other material would be wired wrapped around to hold in place. One student made a ring for his spouse and another thought the ring he made would be great for him and he was spot on. Great job guys!

We filmed the entire class on Instagram live for everyone to see how wire wrapped rings are made.

I think that making jewelry and the techniques I use are rewarding, fun and interesting. I use the solder iron to close the components. The support was great. We had students doing browsing and shopping throughout the day. We can’t wait to hear from you at our booth if you would share with us what are your favorite styles! to make the piece have a certain quality and lasting use as you wear the jewelry for your fashion statement outfits.
